Analytics Prior to Initiating a Search Engine Optimization (seo) Campaign

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

The following are the four major areas on which every webmaster should work prior to optimizing a website on search engines.

1. Website design, structure and obstacles: For a website to perform better on search engine, it needs a good navigable structure with proper organization of web pages. Also it is very important to find out on-page features that usually prevent a website from ranking higher on search engines. The on-page factors (some of which include titles and meta tags, alt tags, web page content, keyword density, HTML errors, sitemap check, excessive flash, dynamic URLs, redirects Robots.txt, custom 404, use of frames ) must be proper and placed correctly to make a website search engine friendly.

2. Inbound Links: Know how many links are pointing to your site and their nature. Note down the Google page rank of all the pages of the website and also the Alexa rank of the site at the time of beginning search engine optimization (SEO) campaigning as these can be used further to compare the progress rates of the website. Also know about the link text used and the number of linkers. Always remember that a site would be rated higher if it has a good number of back links pointing from top-rated and popular websites. Search engines considered quality to be more important than the quantity. Hence linking pointing from underrated website would add much less to improving the rank of a website. So, when analyzing the inbound links focus more on the type and quality of the links pointing to the site.

3. Competitor Analysis: Identify your top competitors in your business segment. Analyze at least top five competitors and know why and how they are rated top. You can create a benchmark for you search engine optimization (SEO) campaigning by analyzing your top competitors. Know their strong and weak areas, identify your strengths and weakness and plan accordingly to combat them on the web space. Also give a keen observation on their website age, inbound links, Alexa rank, Google page rank, SEO score, number of visitors per day and keyword positioning on Google.

4. Keyword Research: Research and identify which words are used by your competitors in effectively drawing visitors to their sites. Find out the search volume of such keywords/phrases and know which keywords/phrases would best describe your site and easy to optimize. Don’t just focus on one-word search terms, this may narrow down your efforts; concentrate more on stemmed keywords and long-term keywords. Stemmed keywords/phrases and long tail keywords/phrase have comparatively less volume and hence easy to optimize. Secondly being more specific to the business, such keywords/phrases help in driving more quality traffic to your site. This means that even though the site gets limited number of traffic, the probability of converting them into potential customers will be high.

SEO 101 for Online Business Owners / Search Engine Optimization: Then and Now

SEO 101 for Online Business Owners

By Martha Lee, Get In Position ( http://www.getinposition.com )
and Alex Kahl, Kahl Consultants ( http://www.kahl.net )

Search Engine Optimization: Then and Now

Introduction
============
By now, most web site owners appreciate that optimizing for search engine visibility can have a real impact on both their site traffic

and online profits. Still today, a large percentage of websites are found through search engines.

Web Designers and SEO Marketers may have different opinions on how to best design and promote websites. One thing about SEO

that is sure, it’s not the quick and easy solution it once was a few years ago. None the less, by understanding the evolution from “old

to new” SEO rules, you can position your site for the search engine visibility you’re seeking.

Engine Algorithms
============
Search Engine ranking algorithms are usually secret mathematical formulas. These engines test for many different factors before

indexing and ranking a web site.

Though algorithms (or rules) can and do change, there are some things that remain fairly constant. Here is a sampling of important

things to consider when optimizing your site:
* Age of site
* Length of time domain has been registered
* Age of content
* Regularity with which new content is added
* Age of link and reputation of linking site
* Uniqueness of content
* Related terms used in content (the terms the search engine associates as being related to the main content of the page)
* Key word driven internal links identifying primary source of search information
* External links, the anchor text in those external links, and in the sites/pages containing those links
* Depth of document in site
* Use of 301 to redirect moved pages
* Hosting uptime
* Whether the site serves different content to different categories of users (cloaking)
* Broken outgoing links not rectified promptly

By comparing how the internet and SEO have changed over the years, you can identify how and where you need to roll up your

sleeves just a bit more in order to get found by the engines:

Keywords
========
Then:
Add all applicable Keywords to your Meta Tags.

Now:
Research keyword phrases that best define your business, products and services – study competitor sites and use key word tools (e.g.

Word Tracker or KeywordDiscovery) to find further key word niches with fewer competitors. Choose a handful (at the most) of the best

niche keywords and use them in your site links as well as your titles and meta descriptions.

Competition
===========
Then:
In 2000, a few hundred to the lower tens of thousands of competitors was normal for the number of websites that would show up for

a search on a “competitive keyword phrase.”

Now:
Today, several hundreds of thousands to several million is the standard number of web sites that appear in a search result for a

given competitive keyword phrase. One way to learn who your primary internet
competitors are, is to do a search for your products/services and see who is listed in the top 10-30 positions.

Links
=====
Then:
The more incoming links a web site had, the higher it ranked.

Now:
Links to your site still help to determine your search engine ranking but the quality and click-through-rate of links to your site have

gained in importance. Build quality external links to your site via
engine/directory submissions, affiliates, and high quality web sites within your own theme area (good: DMOZ (Open Directory); bad:

link farms and “less popular” sites). Add links to your site on a regular ongoing basis and pace these conservatively (i.e. 1-2 a week

not 400 a day!).

Dynamic Database-driven Web Sites
==================================
Then:
CMS driven web sites were not search engine friendly and they often did not get indexed at all.

Now:
Today, though search engines can generally crawl and index database-driven sites, the presence of query strings in the URLs of the

pages can still block the likelihood of engines indexing all of the pages on a CMS site. And because of this limitation, dynamic sites

still face a visibility disadvantage that simple HTML sites enjoy. The good news however, is that there are tools available to rewrite

the URL strings so that your database-driven website can be fully search-engine friendly.

Local
=====
Then:
Most searches were done with the major Search Engines.

Now:
There are now many local search engines, directories and databases that are used for searches, e.g. Google Local and Yahoo Local. If

your business is local in nature then you should register with local search engines, databases, and directories.

In Summary
==========
In the earlier days of the internet, many website owners assumed they would receive plenty of targeted traffic as soon as their site

was built and online. In the early days of the web you actually could “build a site and they would come”, just by implementing

targeted keyword phrases in titles, meta tags and site content then submitting to the main search engines. This was largely due to

the lack of web sites around at the time and search algorithms were simpler – thus top positions were that much easier to secure.

With the enormous online growth over the last few years, just getting indexed has become more complex, particularly if you are using

a brand new URL address. Researching your target audience, competitors, keyword selection and building good links is now more

important than ever. Think of your site as a shop and a search engine as a shopping mall. Your shop is not visible in the mall without

a sign, and well distributed marketing information to inform your online market where you are and how you can meet their needs.

Best Practices
============
Here are some best practices that are relevant still today:

1.Build clean, standards-compliant websites that load fast, have rich content, and are regularly updated

2.Follow basic conventions like short descriptive titles, easy navigation, no disabling of browser buttons, no keyword stuffing or other

unethical SEO methods

3.Build links naturally; do not manipulate (buy/sell) links, and do not use outward links to less reputable sites

4.Use original content

5.No technical errors

6.No duplicate pages

Seo: Keys for Successful Optimization

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Some facets of SEO continue to wax and wane in their importance.
Ditto with the various aspects of content optimization .There have been times when “content might not exactly be the king”. Like in the present scene, it is incoming links on your page that are of prime significance for SEO. That doesn’t devalue the content on your page. For a simple reason that is- what if the algorithms change the next day? Besides, different Search Engines are likely to put emphasis on alternating features. A consensus can be derived at on some points. These distinguished attributes can be spotlighted as:

• Tags
• Text
• Keyword concentration

Heading tags denote to the viewer and the search engines the title of your page and other subheadings. There are 6 such tags. The font of these tags can be adjusted using the font tags or through CSS .For more details visit to www.keyword-swipe.com. The content in between these tags is given special weighting. The rules must be strictly followed while using H1 tags else you could be fined /banned for spam even when you didn’t intend so. The same tag mustn’t be used more than once on a single page. The H1 tag specifies the primary heading on your page. The subheadings must be marked with other tags like H2, H3 and so on.

The wordings need to be precise. The ratio of your keywords to the total number of words in your title should be about 50%. That gives your keywords increased priority.
For supplementary importance the subheadings can be formatted in bold. Too many heading tags will on its own reduce the weight of them. You can stylize your content with bold, italics, underlined, colored text .For more information visit to www.sitemap-makers.com. Textured text serves two ends. To draw the attention of viewer and for indicating to the search engines that those words are of more importance (are your keywords).That doesn’t imply you bold every occurrence of your keywords. You can even highlight non keywords if need be so.
Some good advice (like given above), common sense and a rational understanding of marketing can very well guide you towards good content optimization.
As far as the keyword density is concerned there really is no magical number associated with it. So you never can say for certain what is optimal density because it keeps on changing. Plus, that figure may not the same for any two given search engine. It is best advisable to keep it around 3 to 5 percent of your total text. This works well in 9 out of 10 cases. Another simple trick- creates the article for the readers and not for the search engines. It wont harm to remember that it is a bad idea to fool the search engines and worse to fool your visitors. Unprincipled webmasters use very small text size, hidden text or other such unethical devices to rank well. Unfortunately, for them, these tricks work only in the short term.
Some good advice (like given above), common sense and a rational understanding of marketing can very well guide you towards good content optimization. It wont harm to remember that it is a bad idea to fool the search engines and worse to fool your visitors.

Dental Practice Internet Marketing: SEO Optimization and an Opportunity for You in Your Practice!

Sunday, February 13th, 2011

In your dental practice internet marketing, it is important that you’ll have the means to create traffic into your own webpage. Now, what we’re offering you is an opportunity for you to become successful in your dental practice internet marketing! This is something we focus specifically at our dental practice internet marketing website. In this article, I will talk about the important things that you have to consider in your dental practice, and how our SEO (or Search Engine Optimization) program can be helpful in your practice as well.

So here are some things that you have to know for your dental practice internet marketing. The first thing is that what we really specialize in and where we are really masters at is in utilizing and creating traffic for niche markets. And for dentistry we’re only going to be starting with three niches: first, implant dentistry; second, cosmetic dentistry; and third, sedation dentistry. Obviously, the reason why those are very important for you is the fact that the transaction size of those patients are really big, and if you are not generating or getting those patients, then who is? So, the key things that I wanted to think about is why SEO is becoming more important for you in your practice than ever before. You see, I’ve been consulting in the dental field for about 7 to 8 years now, and I’ve never seen a time where the “landscape” of marketing is shifting so much. Right now, newspaper rates are going up, and the readership of those newspapers are going down. And this only means that it is getting more and more expensive for you to get patients via the newspaper. Now it can still work for you though, but the last statistic that we looked at is that 30% of the population is actually looking at the newspapers. The other thing to look at is that TV and cable is getting harder and harder to become profitable because of DVR, TVO and the increasing in AD rains. Direct mail is always going to be a valuable media that you have to be targeting, but sad to say, the reality is that it is expensive as well as it is difficult. Now that’s just from a pure media perspective. And when you look at who your ideal patients are for those specific topics (like implant dentistry, cosmetic dentistry and sedation dentistry), the thing that you have to be aware of is that those patients, no matter what age, are going online and searching! There’s actually a research center that says, “the fastest growing population other than teenagers who are online are people over the age of 55”; so that if you’re not doing anything or everything now to put yourself in a position to successfully dominate your target areas and your target keywords, then the big possibility is that you’re going to regret it if someone else beats you to that!

And so, when my colleague Lloyd Irvin and I were talking about designing the SEO program for your dental practice internet marketing, we wanted to build the world’s most effective, efficient and most powerful traffic website in the world when it comes to this 3 niche-specific target markets (and that’s why we’re showing some of the video and some of the other links where Lloyd proved to you how he can get high search engine rankings literally within hours!). And then some of the videos where we show the actual results that he has for his sites on being number 1, 2, 3, 4, all maybe on the top and on one page really have a lot of proof and that is precisely what you want to happen when people come and type in the keywords in your surrounding area.

And I just want you to know that right now, we are currently not open; we closed it down because we had so many people from our last event join that we’re just getting them all up and running, and in the next two weeks we’re going to be reopening the opportunity to begin and have us do the SEO for you in your dental practice internet marketing. So keep an eye out on your e-mails! I’m working on this stuff right now to get everything ready, rockin’ and rollin’ so that in a couple of weeks when you open it up, it’s going to be your opportunity to jump in!

What is Search Engine Optimization (seo)

Saturday, February 12th, 2011

Search engine optimization is the process of making ones website content more search engine friendly to attract traffic by ranking higher. The process of increasing the amount of visitors to a Web site by ranking high in the search results of a search engine. The higher a Web site ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that that site will be visited by a user. It is common practice for Internet users to not click through pages and pages of search results, so where a site ranks in a search is essential for directing more traffic toward the site.

There are several methods and opinions about how a web page should be optimized, and much will depend on the type of site, its content, purpose and competition, if relevant. But in general search engine optimization relies heavily on the proper use of keywords and keyphrases that describe the site’s content.

• In order for any search engine to index all the pages of your site, it should be able to find them. An efficient navigation system is very important in this regard as explained in this article. Avoid using images, JavaScript or flash navigation links, because search engines look for HTML link tags for indexing.

• Add relevant content to your website. If your website sells digital cameras, you can add reviews on the digital cameras that you carry. This will also attract potential buyer to your website. Usually buyers do research first before they buy online.

• In order to target keywords in searches, use the same keywords in the text. Keywords should first appear is in the TITLE section of the page’s source code. They should also appear in the META description section where the page is accurately described by repeating the keywords. The META keywords section will also contain keywords or keyphrases describing the site’s product, services or content.

• When linking to web pages within your website, use descriptive words in that link to describe that page. Advanced search engines use these words as the keywords defining the content of the page.

• Since SEO relies so heavily on keywords, the most important keywords and keyphrases should be used liberally in the first two paragraphs of the content of each page, and then sprinkled throughout the body. The last paragraph of every page should also be keyword rich.

• A suggested rule of thumb is to reach for keyword density between 5-15%. Judgment must be used to invoke keywords liberally without getting too repetitive. It may also help to use bold or italics on a keyword or two, but avoid doing this to excess.

• Submitting to search engines is not new to webmasters. However, follow all the rules and regulations of such submissions to each search engine. Your site may be rejected if it detects spam submissions of your website. Submit to relevant categories in popular manually edited internet directories.

Plan ahead for optimizing your website pages and choose the keywords correctly. Add value to your website so that visitors find it helpful and link to it from their WebPages. Allow some time before expecting results in the searches. If it is not satisfactory, update your web pages again. If you have to hire an external SEO company, search on the top search engines for keywords such as “search engine optimizers”. Select one from the top 20 in the search results. If they cannot optimize their site within the top 20, probably they would fail in optimizing yours too. Read this Google article to know more about SEO consulting firms.

Nevada Extends an Internet Marketing Invitation, SEO Search Engine Optimization

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Nevada – home to amazing deserts, beautiful mountains, impressive lights, amazing stage shows and the always-available one-arm bandit. In recent years gambling has been an export product of the state of Nevada, but Las Vegas will long be remembered as the king of casino gambling, which is one of the reasons visitors make Nevada a prime vacation spot.

A simple Google search using the terms ‘Las Vegas” and “gambling” netted nearly 1,000,000 results. A Google map was displayed with pinpointed locations for a variety of gambling establishments with links to their website.

Those pages were all ranked based on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) principles.

With a million potential pages to review do you think it might be possible that some sites paid a little more attention to Internet marketing than others?

Advertising online is more than just creating a website that looks and feels like a cyber business card. The website you need to develop is almost a living, breathing organism. The content your company places online should be relevant, fresh and interesting. If website visitors don’t find your site compelling they will not likely return.

Whether your firm provides services or products the online environment provides a great place to take what you offer and hand deliver it to individuals who really want to know more about what you can provide.

Nevada businesses understand their websites may also be a means of advancing tourism goals that not only help their online business, but also provide a reason for visitors to consider a visit to the Silver State.

Search Engine Optimization has allowed the cream of the crop to rise to the top of the site rankings. In many cases the use of SEO is better than virtually any other type of Website advertising.

Obviously Nevada offers more than gambling, which is why so many sites have been developed to promote the rich history of the state and provide reason for everyone to visit. Most business firms and organizations have learned that Internet marketing can be a strong ally in getting connected with those who want more information.

The services a company provides can be highlighted in an online setting that is non-threatening to visitors while providing every opportunity to allow visitors to respond to a call to action.

The growth in consumer spending within the state of Nevada is enhanced either directly or indirectly through the Internet. When businesses commit to providing an online store or information promoted by stellar SEO techniques the end result is online sales as well as physical visits to the state.

It may be difficult for some business owners to detect a positive advance through the Internet simply because there is no face-to-face visits with customers. The expansion of the Internet makes it vital for businesses that wish to succeed to engage in the process of site development for their business – even when they don’t fully understand it.

A business specializing is SEO strategies can help answer questions and assist in developing a positive approach to passing along your core message with the greatest impact on both site visitors as well as search engines.

Seo Search Engine Optimization Marketing Tactics

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

When it comes to obtaining links to your web site, this isn’t always the easiest task. Using seo search engine optimization marketing tactics will help you to save time and increase results. We have some great tips to help website owners get the links they are looking for.

I was told by my parents that hard work pays off in the end, which is great advice. Something else that I was told is that you should work smarter instead of harder. One of the best methods I found to get a lot of quality inbound links to your site without a tremendous amount of effort is to write articles and then submit them to article sites. You can write an article about your topic and then submit it to the top 100 article sites, and this will actually produce several hundred inbound links to your site. For more details go to www.greatseosecrets.com The reason behind this is that many popular article sites offer syndication to smaller article and news sites. Therefore if you post a great article to a major article site, you will then see that your article starts appearing on other random web sites. This produces high quality links to your site, which in the end boosts your search engine rankings.

When writing seo friendly or search engine optimized articles you must take a few things in to consideration. You must create the article with a title that includes your key words. Then you must also place your key terms throughout your article several times (at least 3 times). Typically most sites require that articles are at least 500 words, you can use a word counter to double check this before you start submitting.

Some other great tactics out there for grabbing links would be through reciprocal linking, and simply asking for links. Many web sites will link to your site if you have quality content or if you offer them something to make it worth their time. If you can obtain a link on the home page of a popular site, this can give you some great credit with the search engines. Especially if you are only 1 of few outbound links from that page.

Lastly I will cover some other neat ideas to obtain inbound links. For more details go to www.thesearchengineprimer.com You can actually go to top social bookmaking sites and add your site as a bookmark. You can create videos and other media to post on the internet as well, and then find a way to get visitors to link to your site. Another neat idea is to give something valuable away to your website visitors and ask for a link to your site. This would mostly only work for websites that sell to other website owners. If you know a lot of people with web sites, ask them to exchange links – this helps. Remember whenever you obtain a link to your web site; make sure the anchor text pointing to your website includes your main key terms. This tells the search engines exactly what your website is about.

What An Arizona SEO Company Wants You To Know About Search Engine Optimization Services

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

If you’re approached by an online marketing agency claiming they can get you a Top 10 search engine ranking “overnight”, turn around and run away!

That’s the advice a prominent Arizona SEO Company offers to business owners who are looking to get to the top of the search engine results quickly.

Search on any term in Google and you’re likely to get thousands of web addresses returned to you. And, if you’re like the average surfer, you’ll never click below the Top 10 listings. That’s because nearly 100% of anyone’s search requirements are fully satisfied by web sites appearing on the first of the many search engine result pages (SERPs). If you’re not on the first page, you might as well not be there at all.

The only way to earn and keep a Top 10 rating, other than buying your way to the top by bidding outrageous amounts of money for a laundry list of key words, is to use natural search engine optimization techniques.

Often called “organic search engine optimization”, these natural search engine optimization techniques work because the online marketing agency, or search engine optimization firm, using them creates pages of web content that are specially designed to attract search engine “spiders”.

These pages are optimized with just the right blend of targeted key words, proper HTML tags, and a page/web linking strategy that search engines look for.

Natural search engine optimization is part art and part science and a lot of online marketing experts are getting it wrong. That’s why our contact at a noted Chandler Web Firm recommends that you check out the references that a search engine optimization firm provides before you sign any agreement.

Besides checking references, which can always be faked, ask the online marketing agency for a list of key words that they have achieved Top 10 ratings for. Then search on those terms and see if any of the web sites in the Top 10 match the reference list you were given.

Finally, our Arizona SEO Company friend says that you should beware of any search engine optimization company that cannot provide a couple of local references. After all, how good of a marketing agency can a company be if they claim to be a Scottsdale marketing company and they don’t have any clients in their home town?
